The XYQ-5DC02 is a three-phase AC asynchronous motor — overseas buyers usually call this type an induction motor. There are no brushes and no commutator: the rotor turns because the rotating field from the stator induces current in it. That removes the wear item a brushed DC motor carries, and it is why AC drives have taken over new low-speed vehicle designs. Our AC traction range runs from 1.5 kW to 20 kW on 48V, 72V and 80V battery platforms. This 5 kW / 3000 rpm version sits in the low-speed vehicle slot — small, fast enough for a golf cart or ATV final drive, and built with a spline shaft instead of a flange.
An induction motor cannot be wired straight to a battery — it needs a VFD (variable frequency drive, the box that turns fixed DC into adjustable-frequency three-phase AC). The VFD sets the frequency, and frequency sets the synchronous speed: raise the frequency and the motor runs faster, lower it and the motor runs slower, with full torque available at low speed. That is the practical gain over a DC motor: smooth pull-away, controlled creep, regenerative braking that puts energy back into the battery, and speed that follows a pedal rather than a fixed curve. The 64 P/rev Hall encoder closes the loop, so the VFD knows the actual rotor speed instead of guessing.
Two voltages on one nameplate are not a mistake. 48V DC is the battery bus feeding the VFD; 34V AC is the three-phase line voltage the VFD delivers at the motor terminals, about the DC bus divided by 1.41. The 111 A rating is the AC line current at those terminals, not the DC current drawn from the battery. The 24-tooth spline is the other half of the mounting story: this motor couples straight to the axle or transaxle input, so there is no flange, no coupling and no separate gearbox to align — the final drive ratio is set by the vehicle, not the motor. IP54 keeps dust and splashed water out, which matters on a sweeper or an outdoor sightseeing car, and Class H insulation leaves headroom for the heat a 5 kW motor makes in a compact frame.

Q: Why does the nameplate show 48V DC and 34V AC at the same time?
A: They are two different points in the same drive. 48V DC is your battery bus, which feeds the VFD (variable frequency drive). The VFD switches that DC into three-phase AC, and 34V AC is the line voltage it delivers at the motor terminals — roughly the DC bus divided by 1.41. The motor never sees 48V DC directly.
Q: What does the 24-tooth spline shaft fit?
A: It mates with the axle or transaxle input of your vehicle, so the motor drives the final drive directly without a separate coupling. Spline tooth form, diameter and length differ between axle makers, so send us your axle drawing or the mating spline dimensions. We confirm the fit before production — a spline that is close but not exact will rattle and wear out.
Q: Can I run this motor without the encoder?
A: The 64 P/rev Hall encoder feeds rotor position and speed back to the VFD for closed-loop control, which is what gives reliable torque from a standstill and stable speed on a slope. A sensorless VFD can spin the motor, but you lose low-speed torque accuracy and smooth starting. For a vehicle that starts on ramps or creeps in a warehouse, keep the encoder.
