The XYQ-8PE01 is a 3-phase AC squirrel cage induction motor — part of the induction motor family (also called asynchronous, since the rotor always runs slightly slower than the stator field). The rotor is a solid cage of cast aluminum bars shorted at both ends; no brushes, no commutator, almost no maintenance. That durability is why AC induction dominates industrial traction above a few kW — no brush wear means longer service intervals and lower total cost of ownership. At 8 kW the XYQ-8PE01 sits well below the heavy 30 kW class (XYQ-30CF01) but above the lightest fractional drives, making it the natural fit for mid-size forklifts, AGVs and transfer carts on a 72V battery pack.
The XYQ-8PE01 runs on a variable frequency drive (inverter), not directly on fixed mains. In a vehicle the inverter sits on the 72V DC battery bus and synthesizes the 3-phase AC the motor needs. The inverter varies frequency and voltage together to control speed smoothly from 0 to 3000 rpm, and to deliver maximum torque at zero speed for launch. Two practical consequences: 1. you can match the motor's speed profile to your driving cycle (gentle AGV acceleration, full torque for a forklift lift) without a transmission; 2. regenerative braking is straightforward — the inverter pushes current back into the 72V battery on deceleration or down-hill. The 64 ppr A/B encoder closes the speed loop, holding the motor at exactly the commanded rpm even under sudden load.
The XYQ-8PE01 carries IP54 enclosure protection and Class H insulation — putting it on the rugged end of the small-3-phase traction range. IP54 means dust-protected and protected against splashing water from any direction, so the motor is at home on outdoor forklift masts, AGV outdoor lanes, washdown-area transfer carts and similar wet/dusty duty. Class H insulation is rated for winding temperatures up to 180 °C — the highest standard insulation class — which gives large thermal headroom and long winding life under repeated stall, start-up and overload transients. The combination is what allows S2-60min rated duty on a compact 8 kW frame without derating.

Q: What is the relationship between 72V DC input and the motor terminal AC voltage?
A: 72V DC is the battery / DC bus feeding the inverter; the VFD synthesizes the 3-phase AC the motor needs from that DC. The confirmed motor terminal (nameplate) voltage is 51V 3-phase AC — this is the AC the VFD outputs at base frequency (49 Hz), derived from the 72V DC bus (72V ÷ √2 ≈ 51V line-to-neutral). The exact terminal voltage tracks the VFD's V/Hz programming, but 51V is the rated value to design your inverter around.
Q: Why does this motor have an A/B 64 ppr encoder?
A: The 64 ppr A/B quadrature encoder gives the inverter closed-loop speed feedback. Without it the VFD can only run open-loop V/Hz (less accurate speed holding under sudden load). With it, the controller holds commanded rpm tightly even when the load changes — what you want on a forklift lift cycle, an AGV path-follow, or a transfer cart starting under load. Quadrature decoding gives 64 × 4 = 256 counts/rev, adequate for V/Hz closed-loop speed control on a traction inverter.
Q: What is the mounting style — B5, B14 or B3?
A: The XYQ-8PE01 is built with a B5 (large flange) mounting as standard. B5 bolts directly to a gearbox, differential or wheel-hub face — no foot bracket, saving axial space. If your application requires B14 (small flange) or B3 (foot mount), the same frame can be re-tooled — confirm at inquiry.
