80V 30kW 3-Phase AC VFD Traction Motor XYQ-30CF01

The XYQ-30CF01 is a 56V 30kW 3-phase AC squirrel cage induction traction motor, built for heavy industrial electric vehicles that run on a variable frequency drive (VFD) fed from an ≈80V DC battery pack. 2800 rpm rated with a 0-5875 rpm working range (frequency 0-200 Hz), IP54 enclosure and Class H insulation under S2-60min duty. A quadrature encoder (A/B 64 ppr) gives the inverter the speed feedback it needs for closed-loop control. Iron housing, external splined shaft (Z19 / module 1.667). This is a main-drive motor — heavy forklifts, port equipment and electric trucks, not light-duty passenger vehicles.

AC Induction Motor Family

The XYQ-30CF01 is a 3-phase AC squirrel cage induction motor — it belongs to the induction motor family (also called an asynchronous motor, since the rotor always runs slightly slower than the rotating stator field). There are no brushes or commutator: the rotor is a solid cage of cast aluminum or copper bars shorted at both ends, which makes it extremely rugged and almost maintenance-free. That durability is the main reason AC induction is the dominant choice for heavy industrial traction above ~15 kW — no brush wear means longer service intervals and lower total cost of ownership for vehicles that run two or three shifts a day.

Why Variable Frequency Drive (VFD)

The XYQ-30CF01 is designed to run on a variable frequency drive (inverter), not directly on fixed mains. In a vehicle the inverter sits on the ≈80V DC battery bus and synthesizes the 56V 3-phase AC the motor needs from that DC. The inverter varies both frequency and voltage together to control motor speed smoothly from 0 rpm all the way up to 5875 rpm, and to deliver maximum torque at zero speed for vehicle launch. Two practical consequences: 1. you can match the motor's speed profile to your vehicle's driving cycle (gentle acceleration for a port truck, full torque for a forklift lift cycle) without a transmission; 2. regenerative braking is straightforward — the inverter reverses power flow and pushes current back into the battery pack. The quadrature encoder (A/B 64 ppr) closes the speed loop and lets the controller hold the motor at exactly the commanded rpm even under sudden load changes.

Iron Housing vs Aluminum

The XYQ-30CF01 uses a cast-iron housing rather than die-cast aluminum. Iron dissipates heat better per unit volume at this power level and is mechanically stiffer, so the motor runs cooler and quieter under S2-60min duty and tolerates the vibration environment of a heavy forklift or port truck without resonance issues. The trade-off is weight: iron-shell motors are heavier than aluminum equivalents of the same power, which is fine for counterbalanced industrial vehicles where weight under the chassis is actually helpful for stability.

How to Choose the Right Traction Motor

  • DC vs AC: AC induction (this motor) is the right choice above ~15 kW and for any vehicle that runs multi-shift. For lighter, lower-duty applications our DC series wound traction motors (XQ-series) are simpler and cheaper to control.
  • By power: 30 kW suits heavy forklifts (≥3 tonne), port trucks and large electric logistics vehicles. Lighter walkies can use 3-5 kW; medium forklifts 7-15 kW.
  • By voltage: DC input is an ≈80V battery pack (heavy-forklift / port standard; ~84–88V at full charge); the VFD converts it to 56V 3-phase AC for the motor. Confirm your inverter's DC bus voltage before ordering.
  • By speed: 2800 rpm rated, 0-5875 rpm working range. Confirm against your wheel/gear ratio and VFD setting.
  • By shaft: external splined shaft (Z19, module 1.667, +0.8mm modification) — confirm your gearbox input spec accepts this spline before ordering. Other spline counts and modules available on request.
  • By mount: mounting style is application-specific (B5 flange, B14 flange or B3 foot) — confirm with engineering when you send RFQ.
  • Customization: voltage, current, encoder PPR, shaft spline and mounting all customizable. Send your inverter datasheet and gearbox input spec to engineering.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Should I pick an AC motor or a DC traction motor?

A: Above ~15 kW and for multi-shift heavy use, AC (this motor) is the better choice — no brush wear, simpler maintenance, easy regen braking through the inverter. Below 15 kW or for intermittent duty, our DC series wound traction motors (XQ-series) are simpler and cheaper to integrate.

Q: Why does the motor need an encoder?

A: The encoder (A/B 64 ppr quadrature) gives the inverter closed-loop speed feedback. Without it the VFD can only run open-loop (less accurate speed holding, especially under sudden load). With it, the controller holds commanded rpm tightly even when the load changes, which is what you want on a forklift lift cycle or a port truck under load.

Q: Is the mounting style B5, B14 or B3?

A: This depends on your gearbox/foundation. The XYQ-30CF01 can be built in any of B5 (large flange), B14 (small flange) or B3 (foot mount) — confirm with our engineering team when you send RFQ. We customize mounting to your application.
