24V 3kW DC Series Wound Traction Motor XQ-3DAT

A 24V battery forklift that stalls halfway up a loaded ramp, or a transfer cart whose motor smells hot after three back-to-back hauls, usually points at one of two things — not enough starting torque for the load, or a motor that can't take the repeated stall current. The XQ-3DAT is a 24V 3kW DC series wound traction motor built for exactly this kind of stop-start, heavy-load work: 160A rated current, 2800 rpm rated speed, and the soft mechanical characteristic that lets the motor absorb shock without stalling.
  • Detailed Description

Key Features

  • High starting torque — series-wound characteristic pulls heavy loads from standstill, the main job of a 24V traction motor on a forklift or transfer cart.
  • 2800 rpm rated speed — high-speed 24V variant for direct-coupled or reduction-geared drivelines.
  • 160A rated current — sized for the 3 kW output at 24V; controller, contactor and battery cabling must be rated to match (200A+ surge headroom recommended).
  • Class F insulation / Class A rise — conservative thermal envelope, long winding life under repeated stall and start-up.
  • Soft mechanical characteristic — speed naturally drops as load rises, absorbing shock during start/stop without stalling.
  • IP44 enclosure — protected against splashing water and tool-wire access, suited to industrial vehicle environments.
  • S2-60min duty cycle — rated for sustained operation up to 60 minutes per start.
  • Configurable mounting — B3 foot, B5 flange, or B35 foot+flange available to match your gearbox housing or frame.

Applications

  • Electric forklift / pallet truck (24V battery pack)
  • Electric transfer cart / rail transfer vehicle
  • Golf cart / low-speed people carrier (24V platform)
  • Electric site vehicle / utility tractor
  • Light industrial tugger / battery-powered material handling
  • Oil-to-electric conversion of small 24V utility vehicles

How to Choose the Right Traction Motor

  • By voltage: this model is 24V DC to match common 24V battery packs (2 × 12V traction batteries in series). If your vehicle runs on 48V, look at the 48V traction range; if 72V, the 72V range.
  • By speed: 2800 rpm rated is on the higher end of the 24V range — suits direct-coupled or reduction-geared drivelines wanting higher top speed. Heavier-load, lower-speed applications (loaded pallet truck on a ramp) need a lower-rpm 24V variant.
  • By load: 3 kW suits light-to-medium traction vehicles on 24V battery packs. Heavier forklift classes or larger utility vehicles need a bigger model.
  • By mounting: B3 foot, B5 flange, or B35 foot+flange are configurable — pick to match your gearbox housing.
  • By controller and cabling: 160A continuous and 200A+ stall current means the motor controller, main contactor, and battery cables must all be rated accordingly. Undersized cabling is the most common cause of voltage drop and poor motor performance on 24V traction systems.
  • Customization: shaft, terminal box and IP rating customizable.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Why is the rated current 160A on a 24V 3kW motor — won't that burn the brushes?

A: 160A is the normal running current at 24V for 3kW output — 24V × 160A = 3.84 kW in, 3 kW at the shaft, roughly 78% efficient (normal for a series-wound DC traction motor of this size). The brushes and commutator are sized for this current; the controller, contactor and battery cabling must all be rated for 160A continuous with 200A+ surge headroom for stall and start-up transients.

Q: What is the difference between XQ-3DAT and other 24V traction motors?

A: XQ-3DAT is a 24V / 3kW series-wound DC traction motor at 2800 rpm rated — a high-speed variant in the 24V range, suited to direct-coupled or reduction-geared drivelines that want higher top speed with moderate load. The 160A / 3kW puts it in the light-to-medium traction class. For lower-speed, heavier-load 24V work (a loaded pallet truck on a ramp), a lower-rpm, higher-torque variant is the better match. Mounting (B3 / B5 / B35) is configurable to fit your gearbox housing or frame.
