The XQ-2.5-3E1 is a series wound DC motor — it belongs to the brushed DC motor family. Current reaches the rotor through carbon brushes and a commutator, which is what gives very high starting torque and a wide speed range. The trade-off is brush wear: brushes are a normal service item (typically replaced every 1,000-2,000 operating hours depending on duty). Compared with brushless DC motors, brushed DC motors cost less and need a simpler controller — which is why most 48V pallet trucks, platform trucks and transfer carts still run on them.
A series wound motor puts the field winding in series with the armature, so torque climbs as load climbs and peaks at standstill. That is the profile a battery vehicle needs: a strong pull-away from zero speed, then speed rising naturally as the floor flattens out. Rated 2.5 kW (3.4 HP) at 1250 rpm on a 48V battery, this model is a low-speed, high-torque point — sized for small carts that start and stop often rather than for top speed. IP44 sealing and Class F insulation let it work on damp floors and under light splash, which the IP21 versions of this family cannot. One rule with any series wound motor: never run it unloaded without a controller, because with no load the speed can run away.

Q: Can you make the tapered shaft to our drawing?
A: Yes. The XQ-2.5-3E1 is supplied with a customer-specific tapered shaft. Send your drawing or the key dimensions — taper ratio, shaft end diameter, keyway size, shaft length and any thread at the end — and we will match it. Shaft material and hardness can also be adjusted for high radial loads such as chain or gear drives.
Q: Is IP44 enough for outdoor use?
A: IP44 means protection against solid objects over 1 mm and against water splashing from any direction. It suits covered outdoor work, wash-down areas with light splash and damp factory floors. It is not rated for rain driving into the motor, high-pressure jet washing or immersion. For those conditions ask our engineering team about IP54 or IP65 versions.
Q: What does S2-60min duty mean — can it run continuously?
A: S2-60min is a short-time duty rating: the motor delivers its full 2.5 kW for 60 minutes starting from cold, then must cool down before the next run. That matches pallet trucks, platform trucks and transfer carts, which work in trips rather than non-stop. If your vehicle runs the motor continuously for hours, tell us at inquiry — a larger frame or a different duty rating is the correct choice.
