48V 6.3kW Series Wound DC Auxiliary Motor XQD-6.3-1SW (for Forklift & Tractor Hydraulic Pumps, Industrial Power Packs)

The XQD-6.3-1SW is a 48V 6.3kW series wound DC auxiliary motor — a different animal from a traction motor. Where a traction motor is built for one big continuous load (driving the wheels), this one is built for the intermittent hydraulic loads on an industrial or agricultural machine: a forklift's steering or lift pump, an industrial hydraulic power pack, an agricultural loader's hydraulics. Series winding gives very high torque at low speed, which is exactly what a hydraulic pump needs to break free from rest and pressurize the system. 172.8 A, 1550 rpm rated (3200 rpm top), S2-15min short-duty cycle, IP44, Class F insulation, custom mounting face with an inner cross spline output shaft.

Brushed DC Motor Family

The XQD-6.3-1SW is a series wound DC motor — it belongs to the brushed DC motor family. Current reaches the rotor through carbon brushes and a commutator, the same as compound and shunt DC motors. What makes series different: the field winding is wired in series with the armature, so the same current flows through both. The result is very high torque at low speed — the motor pulls hardest exactly when a hydraulic pump needs to pressurize from rest — with speed rising naturally as the load eases. Plan on inspecting the brushes every 1500–2000 hours in intermittent duty; the brush caps are accessible on the housing and no special tools are needed.

Series Wound — Why High Starting Torque for Hydraulic Pumps

A hydraulic pump is at its hardest the instant the system calls for flow — the pump has to break free from rest and bring the system up to pressure. A series wound motor naturally delivers its peak torque at that moment: because the field winding carries the full armature current, torque rises steeply as speed drops. As flow stabilizes and pressure holds, the motor speeds up on its own. That is why series wound is the standard choice for intermittent-duty hydraulic pump motors on battery-electric equipment. Two limits to respect: this motor is built for S2-15min duty (6.3 kW for 15 minutes, then cool), and 3200 rpm is the no-load top end, not a running speed — keep the working speed in the 1500–2800 rpm band.

How to Choose the Right Auxiliary Motor

  • By voltage: 48V DC — match your battery pack. 24V / 72V rewound versions available on request.
  • By load: 6.3 kW at 172.8 A suits a mid-size forklift's steering, lift or brake pump, an industrial hydraulic power pack, or an agricultural loader's hydraulics. For a single light steering pump, our 1.5 kW XQD-1.5-3 may be enough.
  • By duty: S2-15min short-cycle — designed for intermittent auxiliary operation, not continuous running. For near-continuous pump duty (S1), derate or size up.
  • By controller: 172.8 A rated draw needs a 48V chopper in the 200–250 A class to handle start-up inrush. Set the continuous limit to your pump's load profile.
  • By mount & shaft: custom mounting face built to your pump drawing, inner cross spline output. Send us your pump's mounting drawing and shaft spec and we will confirm the match before production.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Is this a traction motor or an auxiliary motor?

A>Auxiliary. The XQD-6.3-1SW is a series wound DC motor for non-traction loads — hydraulic pumps, industrial power packs, agricultural and construction machinery hydraulics. For driving the main wheels, see our series-wound DC traction motor range.

Q: Do I need a motor controller, and what rating?

A>Yes — connecting the motor straight to a battery spins it to its no-load speed with no control over pump pressure. Use a 48V DC chopper rated 200–250 A to handle the 172.8 A draw and the start-up inrush. Tell us your pump and battery and we will recommend a matched model.

Q: Can you customize the mounting, spline or voltage?

A>Yes. OEM/ODM supported — the mounting face is already built to your pump or manifold drawing, and the inner cross spline shaft, voltage (24V / 72V), terminal box orientation and IP rating (IP54 / IP65) can all be customized. Send your pump spec to our engineering team.
