The XQ-5.5-24DAL is a series wound DC motor — it belongs to the brushed DC motor family. Current is fed to the rotor through carbon brushes and a commutator, which gives very high starting torque and a wide speed range. The trade-off is brush wear: brushes are a normal service item (typically replaced every 1,000–2,000 operating hours depending on duty cycle). For low-speed EVs, ATVs and golf carts, brushed DC motors are still the practical choice — simpler to control and cheaper than brushless options at this power level.
The XQ-5.5-24DAL can be fitted with an integral speed sensor, available in 4-pole pair or 8-pole pair versions. The sensor outputs a clean speed signal to the controller for closed-loop control, which keeps vehicle speed steady under load changes — useful for patrol cars, shuttles and any low-speed vehicle where speed must stay predictable rather than surge.
