The XQD-4Y2 is a compound wound DC motor — it belongs to the brushed DC motor family. Current reaches the rotor through carbon brushes and a commutator, the same as series and shunt DC motors. What makes compound different: it carries both a series field winding (strong starting torque) and a shunt field winding (steady speed). The result is a motor that still pulls hard from standstill but does not run away in speed the way a pure series motor does under light load. Plan on inspecting the brushes every 1500–2000 hours in intermittent duty; the brush caps are accessible on the housing.
A hydraulic pump wants predictable flow: the same speed should give the same flow whether the system is cold and stiff or warm and free. A pure series motor does not do that — its speed swings widely with load, so flow drifts. The shunt winding in a compound motor flattens that speed curve, so a steering or lift pump driven by the XQD-4Y2 delivers steadier flow across the working range while the series winding still supplies the torque to break the pump free from rest. That is why this motor is built compound rather than series. Two limits to respect: it is rated S2-15min (4 kW for 15 minutes, then cool), and it is an auxiliary motor — it drives pumps and compressors, not vehicle wheels.

Q: Is this a traction motor or an auxiliary motor?
A: Auxiliary. The XQD-4Y2 is a compound wound DC motor for non-traction loads — hydraulic pumps, power packs, compressors and winch drives. It is not sized to drive vehicle wheels. For driving wheels, see our series-wound DC traction motor range.
Q: Do I need a motor controller, and what rating?
A: Yes — wiring the motor straight to a battery spins it to no-load speed with no control over pump pressure. Use a 48V DC chopper rated 120–150 A to cover the 100 A rated draw plus start-up inrush. Tell us your pump and battery and we will recommend a matched model.
Q: Can you customize the voltage, mounting or rotation?
A: Yes. OEM/ODM supported — voltage (24V / 72V), mounting flange, shaft and terminal box orientation can be customized. This model's nameplate specifies counterclockwise rotation; on a DC motor the direction follows the lead connection, so tell us which way your pump must turn and we will confirm the wiring before production.
